Why people use CBD oil

CBD (cannabidiol) is soaring in popularity, people use CBD every day for many reasons and there are increasing reports of this non-psychoactive cannabinoid is beneficial for just about everything. Personally, I take CBD every day to help ease IBS symptoms and it helps me focus and keep my anxiety levels in check. I also use a topical CBD balm for relieving joint pain in my hands and knees that flares up from time to time.

Key findings from a study in 2017, by HelloMD and the Brightfield Group, found that CBD is most commonly used to treat insomnia, depression, anxiety, and joint pain.

I decided to conduct some market research myself on social media and from discussions with customers and write a blog post about why people use CBD and how it is helping them every day.

CBD is used for pain

I have discovered the number one reason people are using CBD is for pain. joint pain, in particular, is very common, and there are many reasons for joint pain, however, one of the most common is arthritis,  It is estimated that approximately 350 million people worldwide suffer from arthritic pain!

With more people looking for a  natural alternative to over-the-counter pain killers like ibuprofen and codeine, CBD it seems to be working for many people when it comes to relieving uncomfortable pain in the joints.

How effective is CBD for joint pain?

A 2017 study suggests “CBD may be a safe, useful therapeutic for treating osteoarthritis pain.” Even the Arthritis Foundation recommends CBD for joint pain. Your body makes its own cannabinoids (called endocannabinoids) and has cannabinoid receptors, some related to inflammation and pain. “Researchers once thought the CBD in products attached to these receptors, but now they suspect CBD helps your body use its own endocannabinoids more effectively.”

What exactly did people have to say about taking CBD for pain?

From a poll I conducted in my Facebook group one person commented….

I am a tree surgeon and I take it for a number of reasons, arthritis, knee injury, sleep, any aches or pain. I rub oil on any cuts and they heal quickly and most importantly to keep my body in homeostasis

CBD use for anxiety or depression

The second most popular reason people use CBD is for anxiety or depression.

According to one of the most recent reports, around 300 million people worldwide suffer from depression. So no wonder depression is one of the most popular reasons people use CBD. But does it work?

A study conducted in 2010 found that CBD could reduce symptoms of social anxiety in people with a social anxiety disorder (SAD). The Brain scans of the participants revealed changes in blood flow to the parts of the brain linked to feelings of anxiety. In this study, cannabidiol not only made people feel better but it also changed the way their brains responded to anxiety.

One person commented on my poll…

I started taking it for mainly mental health and pain from wear and tare on the bones and joints from years of manual work.

Research published in 2014 found that CBD oil also had antidepressant effects in an animal model.

The research says “Cannabidiol (CBD) is a constituent non-psychotomimetic of Cannabis sativa with great psychiatric potential, including uses as an antidepressant-like and anxiolytic-like compound”

CBD is used for Insomnia

CBD for insomnia is gaining a lot of attention. Worldwide studies suggest that up to 50% of the world’s population suffer from insomnia.

Sleep is essential for our health, and an important process that helps us store memories, repair, regulate metabolism and blood pressure, control appetite and blood sugar, build immunity and process learning, along with many other physiological processes – all of which are regulated by the endocannabinoid system (ECS

There is some research that indicates CBD can help modulate sleep and that can also regulate sleep stability.

I asked people how much CBD they taking to help them fall asleep and stay asleep. The results were very mixed, as CBD affects everyone differently.

While it’s known to offer a feeling of alertness in small doses, CBD has shown to have more of a sedating effect in higher doses.
